Job Title: Senior Health Physicist

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Senior Health Physicist to join our team. As a key member of our Radiation Safety Program, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices in our medical and research facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Radiation Safety Officer in administering the Radiation Safety Program, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Perform program audits, surveys, and testing to demonstrate compliance with regulations, licenses, and policies.
  • Maintain familiarity with regulations, licenses, and policies, and organize records in preparation for site inspections.
  • Coordinate safety and security measures for sources of concern.
  • Perform equipment, area survey, safety interlocks, and air monitoring for radiological contamination.
  • Perform radiation safety program audits and evaluation.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative calibrations on radiation detection instruments.
  • Audit laser systems for compliance with ANSI standards.
  • Mentor radiation staff to optimize divisional production and quality.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance on radiation safety problems, including shielding designs, waste handling procedures, and licensing requirements.
  • Oversee radiation therapy treatment, waste disposal, and radioactive material shipments.
  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of the dosimetry and bioassay programs.
  • Develop and provide engaging, innovative training to personnel.
  • Effectively respond to radiation emergencies, prepare reports of findings, and implement corrective actions.
  • Propose approaches to solve problems encountered using modification of standards and proven methods.
  • Develop and amend clear, well-researched reports, program procedures, and license conditions that demonstrate regulatory compliance.
  • Assume the leadership role of Radiation Laboratory Supervisor in their absence.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, health physics, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Five years of experience in applied health physics in a medical/research radiation safety program, or three years with a Master's degree.
  • Knowledge and implementation of federal and state regulations and license conditions.
