Job Summary

The City of Grand Rapids is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for providing police services to the community, enforcing laws and ordinances, and maintaining public safety and security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol city streets to provide protection to citizens and enforce laws and ordinances.
  • Interview complaints, suspects, and witnesses to criminal activity.
  • Testify in criminal, civil, or administrative court cases when required.
  • Work with citizens to address problems and improve police and community relations.
  • Perform tactical operations throughout the city, including special events, foot, bike, uniformed or plainclothes, and Segway patrols.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Michigan Driver's license by date of hire.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • US citizenship.
  • Some experience in communicating with people under varying circumstances.
  • Candidates must meet initial employment requirements as established by the Civil Service Board.
  • Must take and receive a passing score on the Grand Rapids Civil Service Exam for Police Officers.
