Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit, a well-established and leading real estate tax firm, is seeking a full-time Real Estate Tax Associate for our Homewood, IL office. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience researching and filing property tax appeals with the Cook/Collar County Assessor Offices, the Cook County Board of Review, and the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board.
Estimated Salary: $85,000
About the Job
This is an in-office position with business hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Responsibilities
• Assist with the administration of property tax appeals, including timely preparation and filing of complaints and supporting evidence at three administrative levels as well as in the Circuit Courts.
• Analyze properties, reviews, and drafts briefs and all supporting evidence for income producing and owner-occupied properties, including real estate development projects from demolition to completion for new construction, building rehabs, and Incentive based purchases.
• Understand and interpret assessment records, assessment histories, and other relevant documentation common in the practice.
• Monitor and assist with all filings for tax objection cases filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County as well as court call management and document production.
• Communicate with clients through written and verbal means, including drafting correspondence to summarize appeal results and recommendations, requests and follows up for appropriate data, and fields questions and concerns regarding pending appeals, new properties, and other various matters.
• Maintain a docket and assists in all phases of obtaining tax incentives.
• Support Real Estate Department with various real estate tax proration issues and other miscellaneous projects.
• Must possess high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain confidential information.
• Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
• Must have ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
• Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills; ability to balance multiple projects, work independently, and have strong time management skills, as well as prioritize workload.
• Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
