Personal Care Assistant

Salary: $12-$20/hr
Position Summary
The Personal Care Assistant is responsible for delivering essential personal care and support services within the client's residence. This role operates under the guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse and the Nursing Director or designated supervisor.
Qualifications
- Completion of at least the 9th grade; high school diploma preferred
- Ability to read and write as required for the role
- Successful completion of a 75-hour training program for Home Health Aides, meeting state and federal standards, with certification
- Demonstrated competency through evaluations and annual reviews
- Preferred one (1) year of experience in a similar role
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with clients, families, and agency staff
- Reliable transportation
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish
- Empathetic and caring demeanor
- Current CNA license or HHA certification
- Valid CPR certification
- First Aid training
- Valid driver's license
- Malpractice Insurance coverage
Key Responsibilities
- Assist clients in maintaining personal hygiene and grooming
- Ensure a safe and healthy living environment
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals, and shop for groceries as directed
- Support clients with mobility and physical activities
- Administer medications that clients can self-administer, under nurse supervision
- Assist with specific treatments as prescribed and overseen by nursing staff
- Support rehabilitation efforts in collaboration with therapy professionals
- Encourage client independence in line with the care plan
- Engage clients in activities to promote mental alertness
- Provide emotional and psychological support to clients and their families
- Build trust and confidentiality with clients and their families
- Document visit details and incorporate them into weekly clinical records
- Report any changes in the client's condition or home environment to the supervising nurse
- Follow instructions from nursing staff and report any issues in fulfilling assignments
- Collaborate with other community agencies involved in client care as directed
- Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain a comfortable environment
- Participate in required training sessions as per regulations
- Confirm visit schedules weekly with the supervisor to coordinate care
- Notify the agency of any absences due to illness or other reasons affecting service delivery
