Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Perinatal Nurse Specialist to join our team at Christus Health. As a key member of our Mother Baby Department, you will provide exceptional nursing care to patients and their families, utilizing your expertise in maternal and child health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide routine and complex care to patients, demonstrating an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation and making appropriate assignments and delegations to other care providers.
  • Utilize the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation, to deliver evidence-based nursing care.
  • Address the increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families, in accordance with their level of practice.
  • Administer medications and treatments, monitor for side effects, and document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers, identifying issues and resources.
Core Competencies
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to assess the basic physical, psychosocial, social, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients and families.
  • Communicate findings to appropriate healthcare team members and develop and use a specific plan of care, modifying it to meet individual patient needs.
  • Implement patient care and therapeutic procedures, monitor and document progression of treatment and teaching goals, and evaluate the care and treatment provided to patients.
  • Perform timely reassessment and documentation, and must be able to perform unit-specific competencies based on the specific patient care need for the designated unit's patient population.
Requirements
  • 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty, preferred.
  • Perinatal RN Residency or recently practicing in a Perinatal Setting, preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • BLS required.
  • RN License in state of employment or compact.
  • Current STABLE certification from one of the following courses: Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor.
  • Current NRP certification.
