Our innovative and patient-focused Rehabilitation Services Department offers a comprehensive array of inpatient and outpatient care, including acute rehabilitation, joint replacement, spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, and outpatient therapy services.

Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) plays a crucial role in the perioperative environment, assisting surgeons during surgical interventions. The RNFA executes first assistant responsibilities in accordance with established hospital protocols. In addition to first assisting, the role encompasses circulating, scrubbing, and other assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit proficiency in all RNFA duties pertinent to Cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Timely submission of annual performance evaluations by physicians.
  • Ability to undertake additional responsibilities in the Cardiac OR, including circulating and scrubbing.
  • Demonstrate competence in preparing case carts accurately.
  • Maintain clinical expertise by actively participating in surgical procedures.
  • Engage in the call rotation as required.
  • Contribute to preoperative assessments and planning for designated surgical patients.
  • Identify safety risks and implement necessary preventive and corrective measures.
  • Facilitate exposure through effective use of surgical instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging.
  • Collaborate with the surgeon in handling and dissecting tissues.
  • Assist in clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels, and performing other surgical tasks in partnership with the surgeon.
  • Participate in suturing muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin tissue in collaboration with the surgeon.
  • Place drains as indicated during surgical procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a valid California RN license.
  • Certification as a perioperative nurse (CNOR) is mandatory.
  • Completion of an accredited RNFA program, including requisite internship hours.
  • 2-3 years of substantial experience as a CVOR Surgical Technician.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in perioperative nursing practices as both a scrub and circulating nurse with diverse operating room experience.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with individuals at all levels and fostering positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Exhibit active listening abilities.
  • Possess a solid understanding of contemporary nursing theories and practices.
  • Demonstrate compassion and a non-judgmental approach as a patient caregiver and advocate.
  • Ability to endure physically and mentally demanding tasks.
  • Exhibit necessary auditory, visual, and manual acuity to ensure patient safety.
  • Completion of mandatory training programs to comply with TJC standards is required.

Compensation: Competitive pay range starting at $83.35, with individual salaries determined by qualifications and experience.
