Job Summary:
Christus Health is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team. As a Histology Technician, you will be responsible for preparing and processing tissue samples for examination and diagnosis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Embed, stain, and cut thin (3micron) paraffin sections
- Produce high-quality special stains and have a basic knowledge of immunohistochemistry
- Operate laboratory equipment and information systems
- Solve problems and troubleshoot issues
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Two years of experience in histology preferred
Work Environment:
- Exposed to bloodborne pathogens and potentially infectious materials
- May be exposed to disagreeable odors and fumes, high noise levels, and fluctuations in temperature
- Exposed to carcinogenic, hazardous, and flammable chemicals; biohazardous and radioactive materials; sharp needles and blades; infectious diseases; toxic fumes
Physical Requirements:
- May be required to work more than a standard shift as dictated by workload, staffing, and equipment failure
- Requires standing, sitting, ambulating, and lifting of laboratory supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds
