Job Summary:

Christus Health is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team. As a Histology Technician, you will be responsible for preparing and processing tissue samples for examination and diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Embed, stain, and cut thin (3micron) paraffin sections
  • Produce high-quality special stains and have a basic knowledge of immunohistochemistry
  • Operate laboratory equipment and information systems
  • Solve problems and troubleshoot issues

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in histology preferred

Work Environment:

  • Exposed to bloodborne pathogens and potentially infectious materials
  • May be exposed to disagreeable odors and fumes, high noise levels, and fluctuations in temperature
  • Exposed to carcinogenic, hazardous, and flammable chemicals; biohazardous and radioactive materials; sharp needles and blades; infectious diseases; toxic fumes

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to work more than a standard shift as dictated by workload, staffing, and equipment failure
  • Requires standing, sitting, ambulating, and lifting of laboratory supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds
