Wound Ostomy Continence Consultant

The Inpatient Wound Ostomy Continence Consultant will provide clinical oversight and coordination for inpatient wound care services. This role will involve consultation, educational support, and staff development activities to empower bedside nurses with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to manage wounds effectively. Additionally, the wound care nurse will provide consultative and educational services to patients and their family members to assist them in managing their individual wound care needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Provides wound care consultations and educational support to inpatients and their family members regarding wound care management.
• Works collaboratively with physicians to evaluate and recommend treatment modalities related to wound care and facilitates consultations by physicians as necessary.
• Contributes to nursing orientation with a focus on skin assessment, documentation, and prevention of pressure ulcers.
• Provides clinical support and coordination for inpatient wound care services on a consultative basis.
• Functions as a resource to staff for cost-effective, appropriate utilization of wound care dressings, supplies, and pressure reduction specialty beds.
• Contributes to discharge planning meetings on units managing patients with wounds.
• Develops and provides staff training to develop wound care skills for bedside nurses.
• Coordinates incidence and prevalence studies and participates in risk management/performance improvement activities aimed at improving the incidence and severity of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers.
• Participates in the review and revision process for hospital policies and procedures relating to wound care.
• Collaborates with the clinical nurse manager of the Wound Healing Center to assure continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient service lines, to include referrals to the outpatient Wound Healing Center upon discharge.
Requirements
• Graduate of an accredited school for professional nursing with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
• Graduate of an accredited school of Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing.
• Indiana Nursing License.
• Certification through the WOCNCB will be required post-hire if not already certified.
• Minimum of two years current clinical acute care setting experience.
