The Colleague Safety Specialist is a critical role within Trinity Health, responsible for implementing and managing the organization's colleague safety initiatives. This position requires a strong understanding of safety science and the ability to educate colleagues on safety best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement colleague safety programs and initiatives to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Conduct investigations into colleague harm events and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with clinical risk specialists and employee health leads to achieve consistent and mature safety systems.
  • Provide education and training to colleagues on safety science and best practices.
  • Develop and administer systems to track lost and restricted time.
  • Review and analyze workers' compensation claims and litigation experience to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in risk reduction and safety initiatives, such as THEIR, Midas, SSE/SEC Zero Harm, and TogetherSafe.
  • Manage colleague blood and body fluid exposure incident investigation and reporting.
  • Identify and investigate claims for possible fraud, subrogation, contribution, recovery, controversion, and case management opportunities.
  • Review and analyze all incoming colleague occurrence reports for regulatory and insurance concerns.
  • Identify trends, patterns, and findings in colleague events and implement corrective action plans as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience in healthcare quality assurance and patient or colleague safety or other health law or employment practices experience.
  • Ideally, the candidate will have 3-5 years' experience in risk management, colleague safety, or workplace investigations, injury case management, and/or OSHA recordkeeping.
  • RN preferred.
  • Certified CPPS or equivalent preferred. Required within 2 years of hire.
  • CPI trainer Certification required within 1 year.
  • Ergonomic assessment training within 1 year.
  • Experience in presentation skills, data management, and analysis of incoming reports.
Work Environment and Hazards

The Colleague Safety Specialist will work in an office and/or clinical setting, with occasional travel required. The position may also involve occasional work from home based on the needs of the organization.

Physical Demands

The position requires sedentary work, including sitting, standing, and walking.

Pay Range

The pay range for this position is $31.50/hr - $41.60/hr, based on experience, skills, and education.
