Job Title: Highway Technician Senior

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding career in highway maintenance? We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Technician Senior to join our team at the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Job Summary:

The Highway Technician Senior will lead and support the work of a great team dedicated to improving Iowa roads. This role will balance directing the team and pitching in on the tasks assigned. The successful candidate will have a strong background in highway maintenance, equipment operation, and construction inspection.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists with leading the milling machine crew operations, maintains and operates the milling machine which includes statewide travel.
  • Works with supervisor and coordinates work for team.
  • Performs basic office administration via technical devices and software.
  • Hosts daily meetings with team.
  • Oversees traffic control for Maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates snow operations and operating snow equipment.
  • Administers monthly safety huddles with team.
  • Supports internal CDL training efforts.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as accident or emergency repair.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency, and experience equal to four years of fulltime work in highway maintenance, equipment operation, construction inspection, field work in engineering survey, or materials inspection and testing.
  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of post-high-school education in highway maintenance, equipment operation, construction inspection, field work in engineering survey, or materials inspection and testing equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Highway Technician or Construction Technician.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twenty-four months of full-time work as a Highway Technician Associate.
