About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Staff Nurse Infectious Diseases Ambulatory to join our team at Brigham and Women's Hospital. As a key member of our Infectious Diseases Clinic, you will provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients with acute and chronic infections, including those with HIV/AIDS. Your expertise will be invaluable in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary Infectious Diseases team to provide compassionate care to patients and families.
  • Outreach and triage patients through telephone or Patient Gateway message, communicating clearly and empathetically.
  • Document clinical care coordination, including medication questions, lab results, patient education, and nurse-driven protocols.
  • Administer medication and vaccines as needed during provider clinic sessions and for patients with nurse visit appointments or walk-ins.
  • Conduct nurse visits for practice patients, providing STI testing, medication teaching, medication administration, immunization administration, IV dressing change, and OPAT education.
  • Interpret and evaluate lab results to assess patients' clinical response to therapy and overall health care needs.
  • Case manage patients with HIV receiving injectable ART and those in the OPAT program to ensure continuity of care.
  • Communicate regularly with outpatient infusion pharmacies, visiting nurses, and community partners to ensure safe administration of antibiotics and problem-solve issues with IV access.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational quality management and/or quality improvement projects.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of the electronic medical record.
  • Perform technical skills, including PICC line management and dressing change, blood draw from PICC line, vaccine and IM injections, wound dressing changes, and assistance with procedures as requested.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration as a registered nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of one year of recent clinical nursing experience in a primary care or public health sexually transmitted disease practice.
  • Minimum of one year of patient care coordination experience.
  • Minimum of one year of patient telephone triage experience, including telephone-based clinical assessment techniques for an ambulatory outpatient setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Team-based care experience.
  • Proficiency in EPIC electronic health records.
  • Ambulatory Infectious Disease, HIV/AIDS experience strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.
