Key Responsibilities- Provide Patient Care: Determine animal requirements, conduct examinations and diagnostic procedures, assist during surgery and operations, provide nursing care, and maintain patient medical records.
- Support Veterinary Team: Assist veterinarians with a variety of procedures, including emergency situations, and provide support with patient examinations and operations.
- Maintain Medical Records: Document patient conditions, reactions, and changes, and update the database in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communicate with Clients: Communicate with pet owners about the status of their pets, as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain Equipment and Supplies: Follow operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain equipment supplies, and perform preventive maintenance.
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: One or more years of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
- Skills: Knowledge of the preparation, monitoring, and recovery of pets receiving surgery, as well as basic pet nursing. Ability to demonstrate and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology.
This is a strenuous job that requires a lot of lifting, cleaning, and constant motion. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and/or extended periods of time standing and/or walking. May include some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Some tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting or carrying moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds).
