Role Summary:
The Interior Designer will serve as a crucial support to the Principal Designer, acting as a bridge between the Principal Designer, the firm's staff, clients, and vendors. This role entails attending meetings alongside the Principal Designer to document notes, prioritize tasks, and execute necessary action items. The position demands the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic work environment while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the firm's operations and best practices in interior design.
Key Responsibilities:
General Duties:
- Engage in design projects from initial development through to installation.
- Collaborate as a team member on interior design projects and participate in strategic design meetings.
- Assist in maintaining material and resource libraries and provide administrative support as required.
- Document daily work hours accurately.
Design Development and Specifications:
- Conduct site evaluations and measurements; photograph spaces and maintain inventory.
- Create 2D and 3D design drawings utilizing AutoCAD and Revit software.
- Possess a solid understanding of contemporary design trends and furniture styles.
- Assist in preparing project budgets in collaboration with the Principal Designer.
- Conduct material research to ensure appropriate finish selections.
- Develop detailed FF&E schedules and specifications, including sourcing and finishes.
- Support the specification of interior finishes, furniture, and accessories.
- Generate design documents such as finish boards and specifications binders.
Product Sourcing and Pricing:
- Request pricing and quotes for materials and labor; liaise with vendors for product information.
- Prepare proposals and purchase orders for the Principal Designer's review.
- Facilitate product purchases with the Principal Designer's approval.
- Verify accuracy of product orders received from vendors.
Quality Control and Product Management:
- Follow up with vendors regarding orders and track estimated completion and shipping dates.
- Manage CFAs and sampling processes.
- Receive and inspect products upon arrival.
- Coordinate with vendor customer service to resolve any product discrepancies.
Client Interaction and Presentations:
- Develop and deliver design presentations.
- Create agendas and gather materials for client meetings.
- Document meeting minutes and distribute them to relevant parties.
Project Coordination and Communication:
- Collaborate with contractors, architects, and other professionals involved in the project.
- Establish and manage project timelines.
- Maintain open communication with clients regarding design implementation.
- Uphold professionalism to enhance the client experience and represent the firm's image.
Installation Coordination:
- Oversee the installation of furniture, fixtures, and accessories.
- Prepare installation documentation and ensure the design team is equipped with necessary tools.
Post-Project Engagement:
- Compile and provide maintenance binders to clients.
- Demonstrate ongoing client appreciation.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Self-driven with strong organizational skills and reliability.
- Meticulous attention to detail and effective time management abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD, and Revit.
- Familiarity with IVY/Houzz Pro software is advantageous.
- Ability to manage complex schedules and resolve conflicts.
- Maintain an accurate vendor contact database.
- Proficient in problem-solving and managing multiple priorities.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Requirements:
- Full-time position (40 hours per week).
- Must pass a background check.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for site visits and errands.
- Comfortable working in a home office environment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks as needed.
- Some travel may be necessary.
