Position Overview:
This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers reimbursement for student loan payments.

Eligibility criteria must be met according to VHA policy, and applications for EDRP must be submitted within four months of appointment.

Key Responsibilities:
As a practicing physician, you will oversee the comprehensive management of patients enrolled in healthcare services provided by the Veterans Health Administration.

Your responsibilities will include administrative tasks related to clinic operations and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff, to ensure effective patient treatment.

Proficiency in computer skills is essential, as documentation, order entry, and consult requests are fully computerized.

Core Duties Include:

Primary Care Responsibilities:
Approximately 60%-100% of your time will be dedicated to primary care.

Teaching Responsibilities:
0-20% of your time may involve resident or medical student teaching as assigned.
Manage care for a designated panel of outpatients as assigned. Assess and treat both acute and chronic health issues for scheduled and unscheduled patients in a clinic environment. Conduct thorough histories and physical examinations, ensuring comprehensive documentation that includes history, physical exam findings, diagnosis, care plan, and patient disposition. Ensure that patients receive a list of current medications and appointment details at the conclusion of their visit. Perform office procedures within your approved privileges, prescribe medications as appropriate, and order routine laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests while providing initial interpretations of results. Communicate test outcomes to patients and facilitate requests for consultations and special tests.

Screen patients to assess the need for hospitalization and function as a preceptor for residents in the clinic setting as assigned. Provide necessary education to patients and their families.

U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA Policy.

Refusal to be tested will result in denial of employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required. Selected applicants must complete an online onboarding process and pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is also mandatory for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.

Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are satisfied.

Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.


Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.


Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Preferred Experience:
Board certified/eligible with experience in Primary Care. Comprehensive women's health care experience is highly desired.
