About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Chess Teacher to lead an after-school course that fosters a deep understanding of chess strategy and skills. The Chess Teacher will work closely with the Afterschool Administrative Team to develop and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that meets students at their individual skill levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the Afterschool Administrative Team to create and deliver an engaging, age-appropriate chess curriculum.
  • Classroom Management: Build positive relationships with students, promoting respect, focus, and sportsmanship. Apply effective classroom management skills to maintain an energetic and safe learning environment, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
  • Teamwork: Actively participate in a cooperative Afterschool program, sharing strategies and insights to support a healthy classroom community.
  • Student Supervision: Ensure students move safely through the hallways and in and out of the building during program hours, following all building-wide safety regulations. Supervise the safe dismissal of students to authorized adults at the end of each session.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Experience teaching chess to children of various age groups is preferred.
  • Classroom Management: Strong classroom management skills, particularly with younger children.
  • Collaboration: Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, with a commitment to developing skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the entire class.
