POSITION SUMMARY
The Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency is seeking a dedicated Computed Tomography Technologist I or II to join our esteemed Computed Tomography department. This part-time role (0.9 FTE) will involve working evening shifts from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, including holidays and on-call responsibilities. An evening shift differential of $5.00 per hour is included.

*A sign-on bonus of $10,000 is available for qualified external candidates (certain conditions apply).


Under the supervision of the area supervisor, the technologist will deliver patient care and perform technical functions to ensure accurate radiologic diagnoses.

The role involves conducting Computed Tomography examinations as per the directives of a licensed medical professional.

We are open to training X-Ray technicians for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct Computed Tomography examinations following the orders of a licensed medical practitioner.

Adhere to the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle; adjust radiation doses for individual patient exams in line with established age/weight-specific protocols, including pediatric techniques and dosing, while utilizing dose reduction software.

Review and confirm CT exam orders, radiologist's protocol instructions, and patient identification to ensure the correct exam is performed on the correct patient in accordance with hospital policy.

Evaluate patient risk through interviews and chart reviews; notify nursing staff and/or physicians of any potential contraindications for procedures (labs, allergies, etc.).

Ensure patient preparation and completion of radiologist-ordered protocols for pre-medications (e.g., contrast allergy pre-medication).
Assess the patient's need for care following contrast administration; arrange renal function tests and follow-up as per radiologist protocol; instruct patients to withhold certain medications (e.g., metformin) as directed by the radiologist.
Provide education to patients and their families, ensuring understanding.

Attend to the physical and psychological needs of patients during CT examinations, including monitoring oxygen saturation levels for patients requiring continuous monitoring; address issues as per hospital protocol; assess the patient's pain level and notify nursing staff or providers as necessary.

Perform venipuncture for contrast administration, evaluate IV access patency, and administer saline flush as per protocol before and after IV contrast administration.
Conduct Point-of-Care lab tests to evaluate renal function prior to contrast administration.
Prepare and administer oral and/or IV contrast in accordance with department protocols as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Ensure that personnel caring for patients adhere to safety procedures (e.g., infection prevention).
Document clinical and required regulatory information in the patient's electronic chart (e.g., IV documentation, relevant signs/symptoms, contrast administration in MAR); perform order entry, modification, or cancellation as per hospital policies.
Initiate responses to complications and emergencies during examinations; seek assistance from nursing staff, providers, and other personnel as needed.
Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and the effects of disease processes; evaluate images, recognize normal versus abnormal anatomy, and notify the appropriate Radiologist as necessary.
Handle and secure medications and equipment in accordance with hospital policies.
Utilize the image management system to acquire, format, manipulate, and archive images to the PACS system.
Assist physicians and residents as required with CT-guided examinations/procedures using aseptic techniques as necessary.
Support patients in completing informed consent forms after the provider has discussed the informed consent process with them.
Implement downtime procedures (manual operations) when computer systems or equipment malfunctions.

Maintain equipment and examination rooms in proper working condition and troubleshoot any malfunctioning equipment; take appropriate actions to address image quality issues.

Perform quality control procedures.

Foster a healthy work environment and promote teamwork; suggest improvements; demonstrate and encourage patient and family-centered care behaviors.

Assist in organizing workflow utilizing available staff and rooms.
Support the performance of examinations identified for approved IRB research.
Carry out various clerical duties and complete additional tasks/projects as assigned.
Instruct new staff and students in CT procedures and techniques.
Conduct competency evaluations for new CT personnel.
Assist in the education and training of medical staff (Radiology Residents, Fellows, RPA's, etc.).
Provide peer feedback for staff performance evaluations.
Assist in coordinating and participating in departmental continuing education in-services.

QUALIFICATIONS
* Completion of a formal educational program in Radiologic Technology accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT.
* Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
* Maintain minimum CEU credits as mandated by the ARRT.
* Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 6 months of employment.
* Hold CT Certification (ARRT); individuals without CT Certification will be considered for a CT Tech I position and will need to obtain their CT certification within 36 months of hire.
