Job Summary

As a Cannon Crewmember in the Army National Guard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the U.S. maintains its battlefield superiority. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining high-tech cannon artillery weapons systems, as well as participating in reconnaissance operations and transporting and managing artillery ammunition.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct wire and radio communications to coordinate with other units

• Identify target locations and set up artillery systems for firing

• Use computers to generate fire direction data and operate heavy and light wheeled trucks and tracked vehicles

• Maintain operational readiness of vehicles and equipment, and participate in reconnaissance operations

Requirements

• Physically and mentally fit to perform under pressure

• Ability to make quick decisions and work as a team member

• Familiarity with technology and strategic thinking skills

Training and Development

You will receive 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn basic Soldiering skills, and then attend Advanced Individual Training (AIT), which consists of seven weeks of additional training. Part of this time is spent in a classroom and part in the field under simulated combat conditions. You will learn valuable skills that are in high-demand in the civilian workforce, and you will earn a regular paycheck and qualify for tuition assistance while you learn.
