Key Responsibilities

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is equipped with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively implement nursing processes in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. This comprehensive clinical expertise allows the LPN to carry out health promotion and prevention strategies, manage both acute and chronic health conditions, support veterans in achieving optimal functional levels through rehabilitation, and provide compassionate care for patients nearing the end of life and their families. The LPN is expected to:
  • Engage with patients and colleagues in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of patient information in all forms.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including infection control and equipment operation.
  • Incorporate nursing research and evidence-based practices into daily activities.
  • Deliver culturally sensitive care to a diverse patient population.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as required.
  • Identify urgent or emergency situations, seek assistance from registered nurses or medical officers, and initiate appropriate interventions as necessary.
  • Execute assigned tasks under the supervision of registered nurses or medical officers.
Work Schedule: Potential for a compressed work schedule, with days off varying based on team assignments, typically Monday through Friday.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • All candidates selected for VA employment in designated testing positions must undergo urinalysis for illegal drug screening prior to appointment.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
  • Probationary period may be required.
  • Background/security investigation will be conducted.
  • Completion of an online onboarding process is mandatory for selected applicants.
  • Passing a pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all healthcare personnel.

Qualifications

Applicants who are in the process of completing educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered but cannot be hired until all criteria are fulfilled.

Basic Requirements:
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • English Language: Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.
  • Licensure: Must hold a full, active, current, and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited practical or vocational nursing program.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in providing nursing care in various healthcare settings.
Physical Requirements: The role requires moderate lifting (up to 44 pounds), carrying, and the ability to perform various physical activities including walking, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
