Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Oversight: Provide leadership and oversight to ensure all operators are current with training requirements and that safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices are up-to-date and meet the needs of our operating divisions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations, as well as CDL requirements, and stay up-to-date on any changes or updates to these regulations.
- New Hire Onboarding: Ensure that all new hires meet minimum general qualifications for each division, including background and DMV checks.
- Safety Technology and Data Analysis: Use safety technology tools to identify trends and develop plans to reduce and prevent future safety incidents.
- Corporate Safety Incentives: Oversee corporate safety incentives and programs, including the assignment of Safety Points.
- Culture and Team Approach: Foster a consistent safety culture throughout our locations, emphasizing the team approach and individual responsibility of all employees to achieve common goals.
- Claims Management: Work with corporate claims staff to ensure that all liability and worker's compensation claims are handled promptly and effectively, and to reduce financial liability and recoup on subrogatable claims.
- Employee Injury Claims: Proactively manage all employee injury claims to minimize lost time and light duty claims.
- Audits and Compliance: Oversee successful completion of all related audits, including those conducted by corporate and client staff, and by state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Training and Development: Lead the division in the area of safety organization, including classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, according to corporate and client specifications.
- Talent Requirements: Transit safety experience, experience working in transit, preferably urban public, previous passenger transportation experience, college degree or five (5) + years of safety management experience.
- Certifications and Knowledge: CDS (Certified Director of Safety) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) Designation, knowledge of all applicable safety rules, regulations (FTA, FMCSA, and DOT), knowledge of regulations and corporate safety programs and policies.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to read, write, and speak English, ability to communicate effectively and work with all departments, ability to work independently and objectively, strong organizational skills, ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow-up to department staff.
