Job Overview

The Senior Pipeline Operations Technician is responsible for executing essential tasks to effectively manage and sustain the operations of compressor stations and pipeline infrastructures. These technicians are versatile professionals who engage in complex technical functions across a designated region of the largest interstate natural gas pipeline network in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct mechanical operations on equipment located at compressor stations, pipelines, storage facilities, gathering sites, and gas processing plants. Responsibilities include:
  • Maintenance and repair of internal combustion engines, diesel engines, natural gas engines, and electrical drives
  • Servicing compressors, pumps, generators, turbines, valves, and electrical systems
  • Documenting work logs and service requests
  • Reviewing inspection reports
  • Maintaining engine and equipment service records
  • Monitoring pressure levels
  • Managing material and supply requisitions
  • Analyzing engine and compressor oil samples
  • Executing service, troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, and repair of structural, mechanical, electrical, and well systems. Performing and interpreting performance evaluations, including emissions assessments.
  • Training and supervising personnel involved in mechanical tasks.
  • Ordering and securing necessary parts and supplies
  • Compiling and interpreting reports and records
Additional Duties

Assist in executing scheduled preventive maintenance on operational equipment at the assigned site. Identify and address abnormal operating conditions. Provide support during emergency situations.

Identify pipeline locations and supervise third-party excavation and line crossings. Install and verify pipeline markers as necessary.

Operate various work equipment, including power tools, hand tools, and specialized instruments used in pipeline operations, maintenance, and facility repairs.

Ensure compliance with specifications, codes, safety, and environmental standards, as well as company operating procedures.

Maintain records in accordance with state, federal, and company regulations.

Collaborate with team members to review work assignments, ensuring adherence to established safety practices and reporting protocols.

Qualifications

A preferred qualification is an Associate of Applied Science degree in a relevant technical field. Ideal areas of study include aviation maintenance, diesel technology, natural gas systems, compression, instrumentation, controls, electrical systems, electro-mechanical systems, or corrosion management. A comparable undergraduate degree with technical certification is also acceptable.

Typically, candidates should possess four to six years of progressive work experience related to this role if they do not meet the educational requirements.

A valid driver's license is mandatory.

Work schedules may vary, with some roles requiring overtime, overnight travel, on-call duties, and availability for emergency response at all hours.
