Role Overview:

The Ecologist/Marine Ecologist will deliver support services to meet the overarching operational goals of the Environmental Planning Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist military personnel with issues concerning terrestrial or marine natural resources, including species at risk and ecosystems.
  • Provide support through biological surveys, fieldwork, and the preparation of technical documents and studies.
  • Review and contribute to Integrated Natural Resources Management Plans (INRMPs) as mandated by relevant legislation.
  • Facilitate consultations under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and other pertinent regulations with appropriate regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of environmental planning documents related to natural resources.
  • Examine project designs to identify potential impacts on terrestrial natural resources.
  • Recommend compliance measures to mitigate adverse effects on natural resources.
  • Support monitoring programs for threatened and endangered species.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including document organization and routine program updates.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biology from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Compliance with COVID vaccination requirements or approved exemptions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with Endangered Species Act guidelines and related legislation.
  • Understanding of ESA Section 7.
  • Working knowledge of the flora and fauna in the Pacific region is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Capability to meet minimum clearance requirements.
