Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our Radiology Service, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and directing the General X-ray, CT, and Ultrasound operations and support staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the technical imaging services and programs that support outpatient and residential care at VA SORCC.
  • Plan and coordinate work to be accomplished by General X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, and support personnel.
  • Set and adjust short-term and long-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of assigned tasks.
  • Oversee the work of general Radiologic Technologists, CT technologists, Medical Instrument Technicians, and radiology clerks.
  • Evaluate and direct work performance of subordinates.
  • Decide on emergent, costly, or controversial training needs and training requests for Radiology employees.
  • Analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems, and develop and implement solutions that result in efficient service operation.
  • Evaluate technical imaging contractors' work to ensure quality and standards compliance.
  • Make decisions on work-related problems presented by facility supervisors, administrators, facility team leaders, similar personnel, and contractors.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both clinical and administrative matters.
  • Develop new policies and guidelines as needed.
  • Demonstrate skill in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Follow established Quality Assurance (QA) guidelines and protocols to insure integrity, availability, authenticity, and confidentiality of imaging data transmitted by the various modalities.
  • Manage, implement, and analyze clinical and administrative computer packages of the Radiology Information System within the Radiology Service.
  • Function as PACS Administrator for the Radiology Service.
  • Evaluate new products and equipment, making recommendations to the Chief of Radiology concerning upgrades or new purchases that would improve operations.
  • Inform higher level management of anticipated staffing variances and informally recommend promotions, reassignments, or other personnel changes.
  • Perform duties of a Radiologic Technologist, in General X-ray or CT, as needed to fulfill Radiology Service functions.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
  • Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
  • English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
