Emergency Services Department:
At Covenant Health, our Emergency Services Department is committed to providing high-quality care during critical situations. Our facility is equipped to handle a wide range of medical emergencies, acute conditions, and minor injuries.

Our team operates in a dynamic environment, swiftly assessing and stabilizing patients facing life-threatening situations such as strokes, cardiac events, or severe trauma, as well as addressing less urgent medical needs.

Our Emergency Services Department manages a significant volume of patient visits daily.

Our dedicated staff includes Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Licensed Practical Nurses, Emergency Services Technicians, and Health Unit Coordinators. We foster a collaborative, high-energy atmosphere focused on patient satisfaction. Our self-scheduling model allows for flexibility, covering a six-week period with three 12-hour shifts per week, including an every-other-weekend rotation.

Role Summary:
The Emergency Services Technician serves as a specialized caregiver within the Emergency Services Department, assisting nurses and healthcare providers. This role involves delivering hands-on patient care, executing specific technical tasks, and facilitating communication within the unit.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain and update the Emergency Department tracking board to ensure effective communication among staff.
2. Document and manage patient records as required.
3. Measure and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, height, and intake-output metrics.
4. Complete all tasks outlined in the "TECH CHECKLIST of DAILY ACTIVITIES" as applicable.

5. Order and restock patient care supplies in designated areas.

6. Clean and prepare instruments for transport to sterile processing, ensuring proper identification and replacement of surgical instruments on trays.

7. Assist in maintaining a safe environment by checking equipment functionality and reporting any malfunctions, as well as managing linen and supplies.

8. Prepare equipment for oxygen setup and ensure proper connections.
9. Set up suction devices and verify their functionality.
10. Respond promptly to patient call lights and address patient needs.
11. Report any changes in patient conditions to nursing staff or providers.
12. Assist in transporting patients within the facility.
13. Prepare and dress wounds as directed by healthcare providers.
14. Apply splints and immobilizers, and assist patients with mobility aids as needed.
15. Support providers during examinations and assist with triage by taking vital signs.
16. Facilitate patient ambulation and assist with transfers to wheelchairs or beds.
17. Manage waste and record intake and output accurately.

18. Provide general patient care, including positioning, lifting, and turning patients, as well as preoperative support and application of anti-embolism devices.

19. Collect specimens as ordered.
20. Perform phlebotomy, ensuring correct labeling and maintenance of lab supplies.
21. Assist with the removal of intravenous lines and sutures as directed.
22. Conduct EKGs as required.

23. Adhere to all infection control protocols, including standard precautions and safety measures.

24. Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care needs for the patient population served.
25. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
26. Follow established policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing required educational assignments annually and participating in quality improvement initiatives as needed.
27. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

Education requirements are not specified; however, candidates must meet the standards for the necessary licensure and/or certification as required by the relevant authority.


Minimum Experience:
At least one (1) year of experience in a role such as EMT, Health Unit Coordinator, Licensed Practical Nurse, Medical Assistant, or Patient Care Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant, or must meet the licensure requirements outlined below.

Licensure Requirement:
CPR certification is required.

If the candidate has less than one (1) year of experience, they must possess a current EMT registry or license, LPN, Medical Assistant, or CNA certification at the time of hire or promotion, or be a student in an accredited nursing program who has successfully completed the fundamental clinical skills portion of their training.
