Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to join our team at the State of New Mexico. As a key member of our rehabilitation services team, you will work closely with deaf and hard of hearing individuals to provide personalized support and guidance to achieve their vocational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide vocational rehabilitation counseling to individuals with disabilities, including deaf and hard of hearing individuals, to help them achieve employment outcomes.
  • Assist participants in exploring and choosing vocational goals, providing information on career paths, job trends, and salaries.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Plans for Employment (IPE) with participants, identifying specific objectives and strategies to overcome barriers to employment.
  • Collaborate with community programs and professionals to provide medical, psychological, vocational, educational, or other services as needed.
  • Monitor progress and amend IPEs as necessary to ensure participants achieve their vocational goals.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a related field.
  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification.
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and experience working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
  • Three years of experience in case management and counseling.
  • Strong computer skills, preferably using the AWARE system.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

This position requires regular travel within the service territory, including occasional overnight travel. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and work in an office setting with computer, tablet, and general office equipment.
