We are seeking a skilled Food Purchasing Specialist to join our team at Whole Foods Market. This role is responsible for purchasing and replenishing food products, monitoring inventory control, and participating in regional programs for purchasing and promotions.

Responsibilities:

">
  • Purchase and replenish food products through proper buying procedures to meet sales and profitability targets.">
  • Monitor and act upon open PO reports for purchases and credits in an accurate and timely manner.">
  • Control spoilage and shrink, achieve turn goals, and participate in inventory management to maximize sales and minimize waste.">
  • Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required to ensure quality and safety standards.">
  • Assist with counter service and cooking duties as scheduled or as needed to support store operations.">
  • Communicate with Kitchen Manager/ Chef and Team Leader on ordering needs and issues to ensure smooth store operations.">
  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendors to negotiate prices, promote products, and build strong partnerships.">
  • Work with Team Leader or Assistant Team Leader(s) to cost recipes and develop pricing strategies to maximize profitability.">
  • Oversee customer special order procedure to ensure prompt and accurate fulfillment of customer requests.">
  • Support leadership in conducting inventories and implementing processes to improve efficiency and productivity.">
  • Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets, controlling costs, and minimizing losses.">
  • Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.">
  • Provide excellent customer service, address needs of customers in a timely and effective manner, and model suggestive selling techniques.">
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product.">
  • FOLLOW AND COMPLY WITH ESTABLISHED PROCEDURES, INCLUDING WEIGHTS AND MEASURES, HEALTH AND SANITATION, AND SAFE WORK PRACTICES.">
  • Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintain equipment in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards.">
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; ensure accuracy of signs and pricing.">
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations to ensure a safe working environment.">

Requirements:

">
  • 1+ years of experience in Buying/Merchandising or related field.">
  • Extensive product knowledge, including production, distribution, seasonal availability, advances, and trends.">
  • Ability to create and negotiate price bids.">
  • Familiarity and/or willingness to learn about products, nutritional information, and other areas of study.">
  • Working knowledge and application of all Prepared Foods merchandising expectations.">
  • Complete understanding of WFM margin program and profitability.">
  • Ability to educate team on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm.">
  • Strong basic math skills.">
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems.">
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.">
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors.">
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and Team Members.">
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organization skills.">

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.">

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

">
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.">
  • In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.">
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.">
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.">
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.">
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit.">
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.">
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.">
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.">
  • May require use of ladders.">

Estimated Salary: $24.30 per hour (commensurate with experience).
