As a Surgical Technologist at Christus Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms. Your expertise will be essential in preparing patients for surgery, maintaining aseptic techniques, and providing comfort and support to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Pre-Operative Preparation: Assist in preparing patients for surgery, including preparing patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
- Aseptic Techniques: Maintain aseptic techniques and actively monitor situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
- Patient Support: Provide comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.
- Operating Room Support: Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite, position patients according to the type of surgery, and identify and care for biological specimens.
- Equipment and Supply Management: Prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to type of case.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient, cooperate in team planning and execution, and maintain a safe environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices.
- Equipment and Supply Expertise: Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Universal Barrier Precautions: Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
- Environmental Control: Demonstrate competence to monitor and control the surgical environment, maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures.
- Decontamination and Sterilization: Familiar with facility policy and procedure regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all instruments and supplies that are processed within the facility.
- Patient Care: Demonstrate competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Training: Completion of the Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is required.
- Experience: 2 or more years of experience preferred.
- Certifications: BLS required, Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required.
