Deputy Fire Marshal Job Opportunity

The City of Tomball, a rapidly-growing community with a strong sense of tradition, is seeking a highly skilled Deputy Fire Marshal to join our team. As a northwest suburb of Houston, Tomball serves a diverse population of approximately 11,000 residents and a daytime business and commuter population of around 100,000. With over 1500 commercial occupancies, this role will play a crucial part in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct fire and life safety inspections in new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in public fire education programs to raise awareness about fire safety and prevention.
  • Perform fire investigations to determine the origin and cause of fires.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Fire Chief / Fire Marshal to develop and implement fire safety strategies.
Requirements:
  • Basic Level Fire Inspector certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TFCP) or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  • NIMS IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications or current versions thereof, or obtain within 12 months.
  • Class C Texas motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Pass a TCIC/NCIC background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fire Life & Safety Educator certification from TCFP or obtain within 12 months.
  • Basic Level Fire Investigator certification from TCFP or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  • Plans Examiner certification from TCFP, equivalent or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  • Knowledge and experience concerning hazardous materials rules and regulations.
  • Experience in Emergency Management planning and operations.
  • Incident Safety Officer Certification from TCFP, or equivalent.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
Compensation:

The hiring range for this position is $31.18 - $32.74, with a salary range of $31.18 - $46.78. The starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
