The Living Desert is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Veterinarian to lead our Animal Health team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our desert species and overseeing the Veterinary Care Services team.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the Veterinary Care Services team and ensure the health and well-being of our animal collection
- Develop and implement animal health programs that meet or exceed contemporary practice standards
- Collaborate with the Director of Animal Care and Health to create a culture of initiative and high-level well-being
- Manage all aspects of the veterinary department, including administrative, technical, scientific, and fiscal responsibilities
- Oversee preventative care, regulatory compliance, research initiatives, and wildlife conservation efforts
- DVM or VMD or equivalent from an accredited School of Veterinary Medicine
- Three years minimum of exotic animal medicine experience preferable in a zoological facility
- Three to five years supervisory experience in a zoological facility
- License to practice veterinary medicine in State of California within 3 months of hire date
- Obtain DEA license to use Class 2 narcotics
- Able to certify health for interstate and international transport of animals per USDA
- Must obtain a valid State of California driver's license
- Covid vaccination plus one booster required
- Annual TB test with negative reading required
