About Camp Pennyroyal

Camp Pennyroyal is a traditional overnight summer camp owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, located 15 miles south of Owensboro, KY. The 180-acre camp offers an 8-acre lake, three year-round buildings, platform tents, screened cabins, and primitive camping areas.

The camp provides a variety of activities including canoeing, kayaking, standup paddle boarding, archery, and a low/high ropes course. Programs are run by paid camp staff and Girl Scout volunteers for girls entering grades 4 through 12 with up to 70 campers per session.

About the Role

We are seeking a full-time Health Supervisor to manage the operation and implementation of health-related services at our camp. This role will be responsible for providing daily, on-call, and weekly health center services for all individuals, first aid, mental, emotional, and social health treatment at camp. A key function of this position will be medication management for campers.

The ideal candidate will be invested in developing a camp culture that nourishes the health and growth of campers, staff, and volunteers.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage weekly and daily health screening procedures and results of campers
  • Collect, administer, and document camper/staff medication under restricted access
  • Communicate and advise staff on camper accommodations to provide for special medical/health/wellness considerations
  • Utilize the digital health database (CampDoc) to record health summaries, care notes, and medications administered and to communicate to caregivers or staff when appropriate
  • Prepare and restock first aid kits and supplies each session
  • Responsible for the cleanliness, organization, care, maintenance, and inventory of the health center & medication delivery room
  • Provide support in routine and emergency health procedures in consultation with the executive camp director and in keeping with established guidelines
Working Conditions

This role requires non-traditional work hours. When campers are on site, the Health Supervisor is on duty. The Health Supervisor typically has intermittent downtime between health center hours and medication administration and guaranteed time off between camp sessions.

The Health Supervisor sleeps in or near the Health Center, which includes air conditioning and restrooms. The Health Supervisor may sleep near other staff or campers. Individuals sleeping in the Health Center overnight will be their responsibility.

This role involves daily exposure to various weather conditions, plants, and animals. The Health Supervisor will walk/hike several miles daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain. Camp Pennyroyal hosts low and high ropes courses.

Requirements
  • Minimum of a Kentucky State licensed certified nursing assistant (CNA), EMT, or equivalent education/training
  • Enrolled and have completed at least two semesters in an accredited nursing, medical, or helping profession program
  • Certified or willing to become certified in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, & AED or American Heart BLS with AED and American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid
