Healthcare Support Specialist

Educational Requirements:
Mandatory – High school diploma or equivalent. Certifications required include a valid Emergency Medical Technician credential, Medical Assistant certification, or Certified Nursing Assistant license; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred); First Aid; CPR.
Professional Experience:
Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational and communication abilities, alongside theoretical knowledge and practical experience working with pediatric populations, including those with developmental disabilities. Experience in a healthcare environment is essential.
Proficiency in monitoring vital signs, performing blood draws, lab orders, medication administration, and vaccine delivery is required. Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records Systems is also necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all federal and state regulations relevant to this role.
- Effectively communicate with healthcare professionals regarding the care of the service population, acting as a liaison between medical and residential services.
- Maintain an adequate supply of medications and medical supplies, ensuring they are current and stored correctly.
- Oversee the disposal of unused and expired medications responsibly.
- Manage electronic health records and federal medical portals.
- Develop and uphold accurate medication administration records (MAR) for each child.
- Administer both prescription and over-the-counter medications to children.
- Execute treatment orders as directed by physicians or advanced practice providers (APP) promptly.
- Assist in daily MAR audits and report any medication discrepancies to the RN Manager.
- Compile and distribute daily medical lists as needed.
- Facilitate the transportation of children to medical appointments.
- Ensure first aid kits are maintained according to licensing standards.
- Support the scheduling of medical appointments and assist in the medical intake process.
- Uphold confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
- Be available for on-call scheduling and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques and recognize signs of abuse or neglect, following appropriate reporting procedures.
- Demonstrate compassion and professionalism in interactions with children.
- Plan and prioritize daily tasks effectively.
- Implement safety protocols during emergencies.
- Maintain confidentiality in all operational areas.
- Adhere to professional conduct standards as outlined in the employee handbook.
Additional Duties:
- Monitor health care plans as prescribed by advanced practice providers or physicians.
- Ensure accurate documentation in line with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
- Meet all deadlines established by programs and federal partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in random screenings throughout employment.
- Provide proof of work eligibility when requested.
- Pass pre-employment and periodic criminal background checks.

- Collaborative work ethic with staff and service providers.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
