About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Natural Resource Specialist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will play a key role in a 2.5-year study on the socio-ecological benefits and impacts of haying, grazing, and silvopasture on Conservation Reserve Program lands in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating project logistics and team activities
  • Conduct literature reviews and surveys of landowners
  • Travel with the project team to meet with landowners and assess site suitability
  • Manage data and assist in report-writing
  • Prepare presentations for meetings with partners and at national conferences
  • Co-author peer-reviewed articles
  • Participate in the research community at Virginia Tech

Requirements

  • Knowledge of social science and ecological science concepts, principles, and methods
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others on teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher in natural resources, agricultural sciences, social-ecological sciences, or related fields
  • Experience communicating scientific results to landowners and professionals
  • Experience interacting with private landowners and agricultural producers
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
