About the Position
We are seeking a highly skilled Natural Resource Specialist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will play a key role in a 2.5-year study on the socio-ecological benefits and impacts of haying, grazing, and silvopasture on Conservation Reserve Program lands in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in coordinating project logistics and team activities
- Conduct literature reviews and surveys of landowners
- Travel with the project team to meet with landowners and assess site suitability
- Manage data and assist in report-writing
- Prepare presentations for meetings with partners and at national conferences
- Co-author peer-reviewed articles
- Participate in the research community at Virginia Tech
Requirements
- Knowledge of social science and ecological science concepts, principles, and methods
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others on teams
Preferred Qualifications
- B.S. or higher in natural resources, agricultural sciences, social-ecological sciences, or related fields
- Experience communicating scientific results to landowners and professionals
- Experience interacting with private landowners and agricultural producers
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
