Position Overview:
The role involves executing all responsibilities associated with specimen collection, handling, and referrals. The incumbent ensures the quality of work performed by team members and coordinates services to clients in a manner that promotes satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures adherence to CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, and other regulatory standards, including the protection of health information (PHI).
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of collection trays, containers, bags, and work areas, restocking supplies as needed.
  • Conducts specimen collection, receiving, and dispatching activities.
  • Manages referred testing, specimen packaging, transportation arrangements, referral documentation, and mail services.
  • Performs comprehensive patient specimen collections, including venipuncture, capillary sampling, urine drug screenings, skin tests, and cultures.
  • Verifies that specimen requirements are fulfilled at the time of collection to uphold specimen integrity.
  • Exhibits effective communication skills by engaging professionally with clients, patients, family members, nursing staff, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Utilizes the laboratory information system to record specimen details, patient registration, order entries, collection lists, and other designated tasks.
  • Undertakes additional related duties as assigned, including on-call responsibilities, inventory management, special projects, and cross-training.
  • Completes performance evaluations and annual competency assessments for associates in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Completion of a Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory, or Medical Assistant program with a focus on phlebotomy is preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology, data entry, and organizational skills is essential. A minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience is preferred.
Certifications:
Certification from a Nationally Accredited Program is preferred.
