Key Responsibilities of the Patient Access Advocate / Front Office:
- Welcome patients warmly, both in person and via phone, ensuring a friendly and professional atmosphere.
- Facilitate patient check-in and check-out processes.
- Conduct visit closure activities, including payment collection and any necessary follow-up for patient care.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits through an online system or direct communication with payers, collecting copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
- Support staff and patients with clerical tasks, such as copying, scanning, and faxing documents.
- Manage incoming phone calls, directing them to the appropriate personnel and taking messages as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, which may include light housekeeping duties.
- Provide a welcoming and reassuring environment for patients and their families, encouraging return visits.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and policies.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- A minimum of 6 months of experience in a healthcare setting or 1 year in customer service.
- Basic knowledge of insurance processes is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and billing codes is advantageous.
- Outstanding communication and customer service skills are essential.
- Ability to effectively convey information to patients and colleagues.
- Competence in handling problems in standardized situations.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and with diverse individuals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
