Key Responsibilities of the Patient Access Advocate / Front Office:

  • Welcome patients warmly, both in person and via phone, ensuring a friendly and professional atmosphere.
  • Facilitate patient check-in and check-out processes.
  • Conduct visit closure activities, including payment collection and any necessary follow-up for patient care.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits through an online system or direct communication with payers, collecting copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
  • Support staff and patients with clerical tasks, such as copying, scanning, and faxing documents.
  • Manage incoming phone calls, directing them to the appropriate personnel and taking messages as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, which may include light housekeeping duties.
  • Provide a welcoming and reassuring environment for patients and their families, encouraging return visits.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and policies.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience in a healthcare setting or 1 year in customer service.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and billing codes is advantageous.
  • Outstanding communication and customer service skills are essential.
  • Ability to effectively convey information to patients and colleagues.
  • Competence in handling problems in standardized situations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and with diverse individuals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
