JOB SUMMARY

We are in search of a Echocardiography Specialist to deliver patient and provider assistance by utilizing ultrasound imaging technologies to support the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exhibits over 70% accuracy (for Level I) in performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2D, 3D, Doppler, Color Doppler, Strain, and Stress Echocardiograms, as directed by physicians in accordance with established protocols, while achieving the expected labor standard of one procedure per hour, including precise preliminary reporting.
  • Operates various ultrasound equipment, including GES70, GEE95, and Philips systems, to conduct all necessary procedures. Ensures proper functioning of equipment, performs minor adjustments, and reports major issues for repair.
  • Prepares preliminary reports for Cardiologist review with over 70% accuracy (for Level I), including comparisons and comments on previous studies.
  • Conducts pre-arrival assessments of patients' medical records to gather history of symptoms and essential information for diagnostic procedures.
  • Engages in quality improvement initiatives as required for Joint Commission and IAC-Echo Accreditations, evaluating procedure results for technical quality and accuracy while maintaining appropriate logs and records.
  • Reviews departmental performance against established goals and implements necessary changes to enhance outcomes.
  • Upholds confidentiality regarding patients, employees, and corporate activities. Provides instruction to students, fellows, nurses, or healthcare personnel as requested.
  • Communicates technical and patient care-related information in accordance with established processes and timelines.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and Echo-related conferences, ensuring ongoing education and professional development.
  • Fosters a collaborative and cooperative work environment within the department, adhering to the core values of Duke Health.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Education
  • Completion of a program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification or currently holds the necessary registry or certification.
Experience
  • No additional experience required beyond the educational and certification prerequisites.
  • Level I - Must obtain ARDMS certifications as mandated by each entity within 18 months of employment.
  • Level II - Requires a minimum of two years' experience as a Sonographer.
  • Level III - Requires a minimum of four years' experience in the specialty modality for promotion.
Certifications
  • ARDMS/CCI certification in Echocardiography
  • ARDMS/CCI certification to be obtained within 18 months of hire
  • BLS certification
