Position Summary:


The Sterile Processing Technician I is responsible for executing instrument processing tasks, including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and restocking of surgical instruments to ensure their availability for patient care.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the work area at the start of each shift.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times.
  • Engage in routine cleaning tasks, including sterilizers and storage areas.
  • Transport and decontaminate all soiled instruments and equipment, ensuring compliance with established procedures for infectious waste disposal.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by promptly answering calls and addressing emergency requests.
  • Ensure accuracy in the assembly and packaging of all necessary instruments and special trays for sterilization, inspecting and lubricating instruments as per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Conduct all sterilization processes, including steam, sterrad, and ethylene oxide, while ensuring cycle and documentation accuracy.
  • Operate departmental equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Prioritize tasks to guarantee the availability of instruments for scheduled surgical procedures.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory agency requirements.

Minimum Experience:


One (1) year of relevant experience, as determined by the facility, or successful completion of a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician program from an accredited institution.
