Job Opportunity: Catastrophe Risk Analyst

We are seeking a skilled Catastrophe Risk Analyst to join our growing CAT Engineering and Analytics team at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in determining and presenting BHSI's view of catastrophe risk for individual accounts and assisting with catastrophe risk assessment for our global property portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze individual accounts using vendor models and internal models and tools to determine catastrophe risk.
  • Explain catastrophe modeling concepts and results to underwriters to inform risk decisions.
  • Conduct periodic training for underwriters on catastrophe modeling and risk assessment.
  • Work with the team to incorporate BHSI's view of risk into catastrophe modeling tools and platforms.
  • Provide guidance to India account modeling operations.
  • Help to improve account evaluation process and tools.

Requirements:

  • Effective written and oral communication skills in reaching both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Skilled in analysis and critical thinking.
  • Detail oriented with the mindset to validate results, question inconsistencies, present alternatives, and back up opinions.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional and multi-location team.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Engineering, or Meteorology; Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience with AIR Touchstone preferred; AIR or RMS experience required for Senior Catastrophe Analyst.
  • Experience in SQL and understanding of AIR data structure preferred, required for Senior Catastrophe Analyst.
  • Advanced understanding of natural perils such as earthquake, tropical cyclone, severe thunderstorm preferred.

The base salary range for this position is from $100,000 to $130,000.00, along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate's salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
