Job Description:

As a Perfusionist at HexaQuEST Health, Inc., you will play a critical role in providing quality perfusion care for patients requiring mechanical support of the cardiovascular system during surgery or treatment modality. This position conducts extracorporeal circulation under the direction of a cardiothoracic surgeon and assists in the operation of the intra-aortic balloon pump and cell saver.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain required patient information according to standard operating procedure.
  • Manage blood gases, hematocrit, acid-base balance, fluid and electrolyte balance, and anticoagulation/procoagulation of the patient's blood under the supervision of the cardiothoracic surgeon and in accordance with established standard of perfusion care.
  • Communicate any special needs required for specific perfusion cases to the appropriate departments.
  • Perform intra-aortic balloon pumping and autologous blood recovery according to standard operating procedures.
  • Administer cardioplegic solutions, blood and blood products, IV fluids, medications and anesthetics during extracorporeal circulation, as prescribed by, and under the direct supervision of the cardiothoracic surgeon.
  • Complete an accurate perfusion care record with documentation done.
  • Perform Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation initiation.
  • Perform TAVR standby.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Certifications:
  • Cardiovascular Perfusionist - Certified | American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion | Within 12 Months of Start Date | HR
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) | American Heart Association (AHA) | Prior to Start Date | HR
