Nashville, Tennessee, United States Canonical - Jobs Full time
Job Overview

Canonical stands at the forefront of open source software and operating systems, catering to the global enterprise and technology sectors. Our flagship platform, Ubuntu, plays a crucial role in transformative enterprise initiatives, including public cloud, data science, artificial intelligence, engineering advancements, and the Internet of Things (IoT). We serve a diverse clientele, including leading public cloud providers and industry giants across various sectors. As a pioneer in global distributed collaboration, our team comprises over 1000 professionals across more than 70 countries, with minimal reliance on physical office spaces. Team members convene biannually in engaging locations worldwide to align on strategic objectives and execution.

As a profitable and rapidly growing organization, we are in search of an AI/ML and MLOps Solutions Engineer to assist global enterprises in integrating AI into their operations, leveraging cutting-edge open source technologies on both public and private cloud infrastructures, as well as Linux and Kubernetes. Our team applies specialized knowledge to address real-world challenges faced by customers, facilitating the enterprise adoption of tools such as Ubuntu, Kubeflow, MLFlow, Feast, DVC, and other related analytics, machine learning, and data technologies. We aim to develop the premier open source data platform, encompassing traditional SQL databases, modern NoSQL data stores, and the systems that convert data into actionable insights and executable models.

This position is ideal for software engineers who thrive on engaging with customers and resolving their challenges during the presales phase. Candidates should be developers who enjoy addressing customer needs through architectural design, presentations, and training. Ubuntu is utilized by virtually every enterprise globally, across all industries. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to deepen your understanding of the open source technology landscape and enhance your insights into business technology. You will witness firsthand how Linux—and Ubuntu specifically—is driving innovation and positively impacting the world across various industries.

This position is particularly suited for individuals with a technical background who possess a business-oriented mindset and are motivated by commercial success. As part of our global Field Engineering team, you will collaborate closely with enterprise sales leaders. We are specifically seeking individuals interested in tackling the most complex challenges in contemporary data architectures. Whether it's training large language models on multiple Kubernetes clusters deployed on hybrid cloud infrastructures with GPU sharing across teams, processing millions of events in real-time for financial transactions, or conducting object detection on thousands of parallel 4K video streams, these are the types of challenges we address daily.

Work Environment: Most of our team members operate remotely. We are expanding our teams across EMEA, Americas, and APAC time zones, allowing us to accommodate candidates from nearly any location.

Key Responsibilities

Members of the global Field Engineering team serve as Linux and cloud solutions architects for our clients, designing tailored private and public cloud solutions that meet their workload requirements. They are hands-on cloud consultants who engage directly with technologies by deploying, testing, and transitioning solutions to our support or managed services teams upon project completion. Additionally, they are software engineers who utilize Python to develop Kubernetes operators and Linux open source infrastructure-as-code.

  • Engage with the entire Linux stack, encompassing kernel, networking, storage, and applications.
  • Design cloud infrastructure solutions, including Kubernetes, Kubeflow, OpenStack, and Spark.
  • Implement solutions either on-premises or in public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Gather customer business requirements and provide guidance on Ubuntu and relevant open source applications.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Deliver presentations and demonstrations of Ubuntu Pro and AI/ML capabilities to prospective and existing clients.
  • Collaborate with product teams to provide feedback on requirements, influencing the product roadmap.

  • A dynamic individual who enjoys engaging in new projects and interacting with others.
  • Appreciation for diversity and effectiveness in a multicultural, multinational organization.
  • Thoughtfulness and self-motivation.
  • Results-oriented, with a personal drive to follow through and meet commitments.
