Job Title: Research Engineer

Michigan Technological University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Engineer to join our Advanced Power Systems Research Center (APSRC).

Job Summary:

We are looking for a talented individual to conduct research and development activities in the areas of advanced mobility and energy. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our team to pursue, plan, organize, and conduct research, and development and testing activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and development activities in advanced mobility and energy topics, including vehicle propulsion systems, vehicle controls, connected and autonomous vehicles, and alternative energy.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to execute technical projects from concept to wrap-up.
  • Participate in competitive technical research grant proposals, technical publications, and presentations.
  • Guide and train undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Develop and implement control software and hardware.
  • Prepare and present results to sponsors.
  • Author and co-author technical articles for peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed publications.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM field applicable to Energy and Mobility R&D and testing.
  • 1 year of experience working as an engineer in a field applicable to Mobility or Energy R&D and testing, or a thesis-based graduate engineering degree (MS or PhD).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Additional education, skills, and experience beyond the minimum required.
  • Professional certifications, licenses, or verifiable professional development training in a directly applicable topic.
  • Experience in grant-funded projects, developing quotations and proposals, authoring or co-authoring peer-reviewed publications, and designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments.
