Job Title: Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Valor Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Bob Stump VA Medical Center in Northern Arizona. As a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to our nation's veterans.

Job Summary

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in psychiatric nursing and experience working with adults. As a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, you will be responsible for evaluating veterans for mental health disorders, diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, and providing follow-up care.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate veterans for mental health disorders and diagnose and treat mental health conditions.
  • Order and perform diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures as related to mental health diagnoses and treatment.
  • Prescribe medication and recommend dietary and activity programs.
  • Perform interval follow-up visits for necessary treatment of mental health diagnosis.
  • Refer patients to VA medical specialists when indicated.
  • Counsel patients on the use of prescription medications and educate patients in relation to treatment plans.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans and assist in provision of continuity of care through the PCMM.
  • Evaluate patient records from medical providers outside the VA and work with veterans utilizing rules set forth by the VA for co-managed care.
  • Conduct individual counseling/therapy and contribute to group therapy.
  • Contribute to pain management plans as needed.
  • Involves veterans in planning and assuming responsibility for activities.
  • Refers veterans to community resources and other organizations when indicated.
  • Addresses issues such as advance directives and organ donation in accordance with acceptable standards.
  • Inputs all patients' information into VISTA/CPRS.
  • Assists in co-managed care collaboration with non-VA providers and facilities.
  • Maintains confidentiality of veterans' data and information.
  • Complies with all VA and company training requirements.
  • Fulfills compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance, and other related items.
  • Remains focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through specified VA guidelines.
  • Provides excellent customer service to each veteran and his/her family, both in person and over the phone, as well as to fellow colleagues and clinic visitors.
  • Participates in the clinic's outreach events to help support the clinic's enrollment initiatives.
  • Supports patient enrollment and retention in appointments, follow-up visits, or nurse visits.
  • Embraces and supports new initiatives, whether clinical or operational.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and graduate of an accredited program for nurse practitioner (MSN required), including preceptorship.
  • Psychiatric Mental Health NP Certification by applicable professional organization.
  • Minimum one-year clinical experience as an adult mental health CRNP.
  • Must be credentialed and remain in good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
  • Must comply with and maintain all requirements for a valid, unrestricted license in the state of desired employment, or in any U.S. state or territory, depending on VA contractual requirements.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (must be renewed periodically as specified by the certifying agency - AHA valid for two years, e.g.) and in ACLS as specified by individual VAMC contract.
  • Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
