The RF Lab Test Engineer will be engaged in providing technical solutions in support of Test and Evaluation (T&E) services for the Department of Defense. The role encompasses various service requirements including T&E Performance, Capability Management, and Capability Requirements.
As part of Agile Defense, the engineer will focus on the assessment and certification of both developmental and production hardware and software related to Radio Frequency (RF) technologies.
This position demands a comprehensive understanding of RF principles, methodologies for testing, and proficiency with advanced testing equipment and emerging technologies.
The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the RF test laboratory adheres to standards for conformance and interoperability certification testing.
The functional areas of RF Lab testing will include High Frequency, Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Satellite Communications, and Very High Frequency/UHF Line of Sight.
The selected individual will serve as a subject matter expert on technical RF testing challenges and will provide insights on necessary modifications to uphold the lab's independent waveform testing systems.
This role is conducted entirely on-site in a secure government facility.
The engineer will assist the task lead in the following areas:
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess and enhance existing test plans and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements for waveform testing. Explore innovative testing methodologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Create new test plans and procedures as needed.
- Participate in working group meetings to discuss new and existing standards.
- Set up test equipment and perform functionality checks. Configure equipment for both new and existing capabilities using specialized test kits.
- Provide engineering support to test team technicians throughout the testing process.
- Advise on upgrades, replacements, or discontinuations of equipment and capabilities as part of the annual lab modernization initiative.
- Develop test scripts and procedures to automate testing processes and enhance lab efficiency.
- Recommend subtests for reevaluation based on a thorough review of vendor documentation regarding RF terminal software and hardware modifications.
Required Certifications
- This position requires an active Secret security clearance on hire date with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance. Current TS/SCI is desired.
- Requires at least 1 certification in area of specialization.
- A Doctorate with a minimum of 4 years of experience; a Master's degree with at least 10 years of experience; or a Bachelor's degree with 16 years of experience in a relevant technical field. Acceptable degrees include various engineering and science disciplines, Physics, Operations Research, Computer Science, and Mathematics.
- Relevant certifications in the area of specialization may substitute for 1 year of experience.
Required Skills
- Experience with RF circuit characterization and optimization at the component level.
- Familiarity with RF testing equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and network analyzers.
- Experience with automated testing scripts and software tools.
- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Excellent written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Environmental Conditions
- Work will be conducted at a contractor site, with potential off-hours commitments to support system releases and outages. The general office environment is favorable, although some tasks may require standing or walking for short periods.
- Sedentary work with a maximum lifting requirement of 10 lbs. Occasional lifting or carrying of small items may be necessary.
- Ability to stand or sit; walk; perform repetitive motions; use hands and fingers for handling or feeling; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; see; push or pull; and climb stairs or ladders.
