Adjunct Faculty in Biological Sciences

Position Overview
The School of Arts, Letters, and Sciences is in search of a part-time faculty member to instruct courses in various biological disciplines, including General Biology, Ecology, Evolution, Animal Behavior, and Zoology. Previous teaching experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
The part-time faculty member will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction to students enrolled in the core biological sciences curriculum. This role involves:
- Fostering student engagement and providing constructive feedback.
- Collaborating with fellow faculty members, the Department Chair, and the Dean.
Performance Expectations
Part-time faculty members are expected to meet specific teaching standards, which include:
- Sending a welcome communication to students prior to the course start date.
- Recording and sharing an introductory video for each course.
- Responding to student inquiries within two calendar days, including weekends, unless on approved leave.
- Utilizing the University’s learning management system for all student communications.
- Monitoring student participation and reaching out to those who may need encouragement to re-engage.
- Hosting a minimum of two one-hour office hour sessions weekly.
- Providing detailed and supportive feedback on student assignments.
Scholarship and Compliance
Part-time faculty members are encouraged to engage in scholarly activities and contribute to their field of expertise. They are also expected to adhere to University policies as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
Qualifications
Required:
- A Master’s degree or higher in Biology or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A background in organismal biology, ecology, evolution, or zoology.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
Preferred:
- Experience teaching at the college level or in field settings.
Compensation:
The hourly pay rate for this position is $28.89, with potential adjustments based on experience and qualifications.
