About the Job

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing reliability improvements for electrical distribution equipment, and providing technical support to the electrical maintenance group for maintaining and troubleshooting of the existing refinery electrical system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical support for the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of the refinery's electrical systems and equipment.
  • Investigates electrical equipment failures and recommends actions to enhance system and equipment reliability.
  • Develops electrical scope, engineering packages, and defines preventive maintenance for turnarounds and scheduled shutdowns.
  • Develops electrical equipment specifications and associated reliability improvements/upgrade plans.
  • Reviews test data to evaluate equipment health, suitability for service, and makes repair/replacement recommendations.
  • Provides technical support as needed to a 24/7 facility.
  • Supports front-end development, cost estimation, design, construction, and startup for projects and Management of Change packages.
  • Assists in developing maintenance and operating procedures for electrical equipment.
  • Maintains an understanding of industry standards (API, NFPA, NEC, IEEE, ASME, ANSI, ASCE).
  • Maintains knowledge of electrical area classifications and is familiar with acceptable methods of satisfying equipment installation requirements in hazardous areas.
  • Understands requirements of process changes (e.g., Management of Change).
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years of refinery/industrial or related experience, including experience and knowledge with medium voltage equipment required.
  • Ability to comprehend electrical drawings required.
  • Experience in power system analysis, fault analysis, load flow, coordination, and arc-flash analysis.
  • Experience using electrical analysis software (EasyPower, SKM, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience in programming microprocessor relays (SEL, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to work with various personnel and communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Understanding of industrial electrical equipment, motors, motor starters, breakers, relay protection devices, transformers, and switchgear.
