Job Summary

The Laboratory Assistant plays a vital role in supporting primary care operations by processing and handling patient specimens for diagnostic testing. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, centrifuge, store, and transport/distribute samples according to protocol to maintain sample integrity.
  • Provide customer service to patients, physicians, and nursing personnel when providing instruction and assistance regarding laboratory testing results.
  • Perform basic laboratory techniques and testing congruent with CLIA requirements, as well as phlebotomy and collect blood specimens via venipuncture or micro-technique as required by local needs.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Cooperate with laboratory divisions and nursing personnel to ensure proper collection of adequate and appropriate specimens for testing.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years previous laboratory experience preferred.
  • Prior laboratory assistance and/or phlebotomy training required at certain laboratory locations.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University. If you are not currently vaccinated, you will be required to receive the vaccination prior to hire date if you are offered employment, unless you request and receive an approved medical or religious exemption from Jefferson.
