Role Summary:The Registered Dietitian collaborates with specialized patient groups and clinical teams to provide comprehensive nutrition counseling, tailored nutrition care plans, and dietary recommendations that influence nutritional health, growth, and overall quality of life.
This position emphasizes quality nutrition care and education for patients and their families in both inpatient and outpatient environments. The role also includes serving as a resource for healthcare staff and guiding nutrition-related care.
Additionally, the Registered Dietitian will design educational materials for patients and families, mentor dietetic interns, and create learning modules.
Responsibilities include planning, executing, and assessing nutrition education initiatives, as well as contributing to program development, quality improvement efforts, and research.
Key Responsibilities:Patient Care:
- Assess patients' nutritional status through thorough review of medical records, patient interviews, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Conduct nutrition-focused physical examinations as necessary to evaluate nutritional health.
- Monitor and analyze patient responses to specialized dietary therapies, including nutrient intake and growth trends.
- Make informed recommendations to the clinical team regarding nutritional management strategies.
- Document all relevant information in the medical records following established policies and procedures.
Nutrition Education and Clinical Inquiry:
- Incorporate evidence-based guidelines into clinical practices.
- Stay informed on current trends in clinical nutrition to enhance professional knowledge through continued education.
- Provide training and presentations to staff on nutrition principles and practices.
- Engage in community outreach and educational events to promote nutrition services.
Administrative Duties:
- Adhere to service principles focused on innovation, excellence, and teamwork.
- Participate in departmental and hospital-wide committees to enhance nutrition services.
- Assist in the planning and execution of nutrition-related conferences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Dietetics from an accredited institution is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of clinical experience post dietetic internship is required; pediatric experience is preferred.
- Registered Dietitian (RD) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is mandatory.
- Illinois State Licensure as a registered dietitian (LDN) is required.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC)
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
- Pediatric/Renal/Oncology Specialty designation from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
