Position Overview:
The University of New Mexico's Clinical and Translational Science Center is seeking a dedicated faculty member to join the Mentored Career Development (KL2) Scholar Program at the Assistant Professor level. This role is available on either a tenure or flex-track basis.

Research Focus:
We encourage applications from individuals engaged in various forms of clinical and translational research, spanning molecular to community and population-level studies, particularly those relevant to the School of Medicine Departments such as Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Physical Rehabilitation, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and the College of Pharmacy.

Commitment:
The successful candidate will allocate 75% of their efforts to research activities and 25% to additional responsibilities. Candidates with MD, PhD, MD/PhD, Pharm D, or equivalent degrees who are motivated to secure independent funding in clinical and translational research are highly encouraged to apply.

Program Goals:
The KL2 Scholar Program aims to enhance the career development and training of junior faculty in clinical and translational research, emphasizing multidisciplinary, team-based approaches to improve health outcomes and prevent diseases. Scholars will be expected to actively pursue extramural funding during their tenure in the program.

Training and Development:
This program will provide tailored educational components to strengthen competencies in the design, execution, and analysis of clinical and translational research. The opportunity will utilize the NIH Mentored Research Scientist Development Program Award (KL2) mechanism, with awards available for up to five years.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Health professionals with MD, PhD, MD/PhD, Pharm D, or equivalent degrees.
- Ability to obtain appropriate licensure in the State of New Mexico, if applicable.
- A minimum of 2 years of post-terminal degree research experience (e.g., post-doc, fellowship).
- Candidates must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Quality and relevance of previous training, experience, and education.
- Significance and innovation of the proposed research plan.
- Number and quality of authored publications.
- Commitment to a career in clinical translational research and to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Mentoring experience and dedication to student success.
