Job Description:

As a Pharmacy Intern, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our pharmacy team at Walgreens.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide pharmacy consulting services to customers, addressing their questions and concerns regarding medication usage, interactions, and preventive healthcare services.
  • Ensure the proper compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications, adhering to regulatory guidelines and company policies.
  • Support the efficient workflow of the pharmacy, collaborating with the pharmacy manager to optimize financials, inventory management, and customer experience.
  • Engage with customers, resolving issues promptly, and providing assistance with products and services, promoting a positive customer experience.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers, anticipating their needs, and proactively offering services to enhance their experience.
  • Perform pharmacist tasks, including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations, company policies, and standards, maintaining a safe and compliant environment.
  • Assist the pharmacy manager in establishing procedures that promote efficient workflow, assigning roles, coordinating activities, and soliciting employee suggestions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of pharmacy systems, including Intercom Plus, registers, automation, and StoreNET, providing support to customers and pharmacy staff.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to pharmacy systems to promote productivity and efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, resolving customer issues, and preventing payment rejections, following up with insurance companies and medical providers as needed.
  • Follow up with medical providers' offices to clarify prescribed medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies, suggesting alternative medications and answering medical provider questions.
  • Perform retail, clinical, and wellness services, such as immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness, promoting preventive healthcare services.
  • Assist and support the pharmacy manager in analyzing performance data, including pharmacy financials, customer service, and implementation of procedures for pharmacy asset protection and inventory management.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community, participating in community outreach activities to promote the pharmacy business and enhance growth opportunities.
  • Partner with Central Pharmacy Operations for customer registration, 3rd party reviews, and resolving customer issues to support the Well Experience locations.
  • Conduct virtual product reviews, following specific company procedures and guidelines, reducing transactional tasks in virtual environments.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Manager with staff hiring and training, reinforcing direction, coaching, and providing constructive feedback to foster employee development.
  • Promote teamwork and motivate team members by establishing expectations, monitoring progress, and recognizing achievements.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare by reading pharmacy-related journals, company publications, and communications, pursuing best practices to enhance performance.
  • Obtain necessary certifications, education credits, and training, such as People Plus Learning modules, as required by the Company.
  • Seek professional development by monitoring performance, soliciting constructive feedback, and leveraging the pharmacy manager and store manager as mentors and coaches.
Requirements:
  • Willingness to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) degree from an accredited educational institution prior to the start date in position.
  • Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure from the respective Board of Pharmacy in the states within the district within 90 days of hire per district guidelines.
  • Experience performing prescription dispensing activities that demonstrate a strong working knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws.
  • Certified Immunizer or willingness to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:

The actual hourly salary within this range that you will be offered will depend on a variety of factors, including geography, skills, and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant factors.
