Appian Architect Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Appian Architect to join our team at BigBear.ai. As an Appian Architect, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing Appian applications within IL5 and IL6 cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the architecture design and deployment of Appian applications in IL5 and IL6 environments, ensuring compliance with cloud security standards and best practices.
  • Oversee the installation and configuration of Appian software in secure environments, including designing and implementing server-level architectures such as N-Tier, Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), and high availability (HA) configurations.
  • Work closely with cybersecurity and compliance teams to support the ATO process, ensuring Appian systems meet all required security controls.
  • Develop and implement effective coding branching strategies to support continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for Appian applications.
  • Oversee the full deployment lifecycle, including installation, configuration, integration, and testing of Appian solutions in secure environments.
  • Design and manage the integration of Appian solutions with AWS cloud services, ensuring scalable and secure cloud deployments.
  • Take ownership of technical diagrams, architecture documentation, and deployment guides. Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible to development and operations teams.
  • Work within Agile frameworks, ensuring alignment with Agile principles, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions iteratively and efficiently.
  • Act as the official BigBear.ai representative in technical meetings with government stakeholders, ensuring accurate communication of technical goals, project status, and recommendations.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to Appian developers, ensuring adherence to best practices for design, coding, and deployment within Appian's low-code platform.
  • Serve as a bridge between development teams, system architects, and cybersecurity teams to align technical goals with organizational objectives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 10 to 12 years of experience; or Master's Degree and 8 to 10 years of experience; or PhD and 5 to 7 years of experience; or (in lieu of Bachelor's degree, 6 additional years of relevant experience)
  • Must possess and maintain a Secret clearance
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience working with Appian platform in architect or senior developer roles
  • Proven experience with Appian software installation and configuring server-level architectures such as N-Tier, Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), and high availability (HA) configurations
  • Hands-on experience working in Agile environments, with strong knowledge of Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience working on Federal or DoD projects, including familiarity with related security and compliance requirements
  • Secret clearance or ability to obtain
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, coding branching strategies, and automated deployment processes
  • Appian Certified Lead Solution Architect or equivalent certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • AWS Experience: Experience deploying and managing applications in AWS environments with a focus on scalability, security, and high availability
  • Preferred Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or other relevant AWS certifications
