Role Overview
The Process Improvement Engineer plays a pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiencies and engineering processes at MasterBrand. This position entails collaboration within a team environment, working closely with safety, maintenance, plant production supervision, and corporate engineering support teams. The focus will be on executing projects that significantly influence machine uptime, equipment reliability, product quality, and labor/material efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in manufacturing layout modifications and equipment relocations for both existing and new equipment implementations.
- Analyze historical equipment downtime to assess the probability of recurring failures.
- Identify opportunities to enhance material yield.
- Review, update, and develop preventive maintenance schedules.
- Investigate and design effective countermeasures and early warning systems to avert failures.
- Conduct process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (pFEMA).
- Implement countermeasures and track their effectiveness.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting on equipment during operational downtimes.
- Support operators and maintenance teams with machine design, programming, and operational issues.
- Conduct data backups for all PLC, PC, and controllers on critical machinery.
- Organize and maintain a library of all equipment software.
- Assist in verifying machine repeatability.
- Evaluate spare parts requirements for equipment.
- Support management in addressing non-downtime issues.
- Analyze and enhance the equipment lubrication program.
- Develop and recommend design strategies to meet production demands for new or improved products and processes.
- Determine fabrication and assembly operations from part drawings and related engineering data.
- Support production equipment needs and justifications for new machinery and processes.
- Utilize lean methodologies to troubleshoot and support production initiatives.
- Travel as required by business needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, including listening, verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Inventor.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); CNC programming experience is a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an engineering support role with a focus on lean practices is preferred.
- Familiarity with edgebanding process quality, edgebander setup, and wood processing operations is advantageous.
- Experience with lean methodologies and the ability to implement these practices effectively.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Prior experience in developing justifications for new equipment is beneficial.
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Wood Technology, or a related field is required.
