Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at Roanoke City Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing occupational therapy services to students with special needs, with a focus on identifying and treating at-risk students to minimize the impact of their limitations on their educational and life pursuits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate students with special needs and develop plans for service delivery to benefit their access and performance in their educational program
  • Provide direct intervention and/or consultative services to students receiving occupational therapy services
  • Modify intervention based on student's response and progress towards goals
  • Adhere to and provide the amount, frequency, and duration of occupational therapy specified in the IEP
  • Prepare for and attend IEP meetings for students receiving occupational therapy services
  • Supervise occupational therapy assistant staff members
  • Complete and maintain necessary records of documentation
  • Collaborate with educational team members to establish shared goals and objectives for students' IEPs
  • Contribute to student progress reports and interim reports
  • Participate in developing a student's 504 plan as requested
Requirements
  • Graduate of an occupational therapy program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)
  • Fulfillment of state requirements for licensure, certification, or registration
  • National Certification by the Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
  • Licensure by the Board of Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia to practice as an occupational therapist
  • Experience as an occupational therapist working in a school-based setting is preferred

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced educational setting, with high levels of standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
